24Hr HomeCare and Palo Alto Senior “Village” Leverage Uber to Bring Transportation Solutions to Older Adults

Avenidas Village collaborates with home care company to develop a
successful way to bring Uber on demand rides to the older adult
population

PALO ALTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#24hrhomecare–Avenidas Village, a membership-driven senior organization in Palo Alto
that brings services and amenities to Older Adults in their homes, has
partnered with 24Hr HomeCare to enhance senior mobility through the use
of Uber’s ridesharing technology.

The innovative partnership between Avenidas Village and 24Hr HomeCare
makes on-demand and affordable transportation accessible to older
adults, as no app, smartphone, or internet connectivity is required by
riders. Riders can now call a live 24Hr HomeCare representative at any
time of the day to book a ride. 24Hr HomeCare will coordinate the
logistics and communicate with the rider and Uber driver regarding pick
up information. The collaboration with 24Hr HomeCare ensures a
transportation alternative for Avenidas Village members with urgent, or
short-notice, transportation needs.

24Hr HomeCare has partnered with Uber to leverage technology to provide
multiple rides simultaneously. Riders can opt for uberASSIST, which has
Uber driver-partners that are specifically trained by the Open Doors
Organization to assist riders from the senior and disabled community
into vehicles and accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.

Vicki Epstein, Director of Avenidas Village, explained, “As technology
changes, we have an opportunity to improve our transportation offerings.
24Hr HomeCare’s unique, personal approach and utilization of the Uber
platform allows our senior members a comfort level in using the
on-demand service, in addition to lowering transportation costs compared
to alternatives like a taxi.”

24Hr HomeCare’s owner and Co-Founder, Ryan Iwamoto, sheds light as to
how the partnership with Avenidas Village will be a part of something
bigger across the senior care community. “Many of our current clients,
who are older adults, do not have smartphones, or if they do, may not be
comfortable with using mobile applications. More and more community
based organizations, senior-serving communities, and healthcare systems
are seeing our program as a solution that provides cost savings,
increased efficiency, and ultimately, happy clients.”
