90% of Seniors Believe Companionship Leads to a Longer Life but Cautious to Use Online Matchmaking

Bask wants to help seniors find their Valentines and enjoy life more
through technology

LEHI, Utah–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bask
Technology Inc.
, one of the nation’s leading providers of managed
tech services for seniors, today announced survey results that provide
insight into seniors’ attitudes toward the role technology plays in
fostering companionship. While Valentine’s Day brings out the romance
for all ages, and 90% of seniors agree that companionship leads to a
rich and longer life, many seniors are reluctant to use online
matchmaking sites due to privacy and security concerns. The survey also
found that a lack of technology know-how limits seniors’ use of digital
devices and online communication tools to connect with loved ones,
family and friends.

“I want to play Cupid,” said James P. Dunn, CEO of Bask. “The digital
age we live in offers limitless opportunities to create and maintain
relationships that are vital to leading a longer, happier life. But
unfortunately, the senior population is often overlooked as technology
rapidly launches us into a new era of connectivity. At Bask, we are
dedicated to helping seniors navigate new technology so they can create
better connections with old, and potentially new, loved ones by
providing patient advice and support.”

Findings from an online survey of more than 200 current Bask members
included:

  • 90% think having a companion helps people live longer, and 86% think
having a companion helps people to age in place (stay in home) longer
  • That said, 82% would not use online dating because of online privacy
    or security concerns
  • 49% would consider a video call from a loved one a romantic or loving
gesture, yet 63% do not know how to make a video call
  • 31% would swap their Valentine’s Day dinner plans for a tech-related
    product
