AHF: New ‘Stop Manhattanwood’ Billboards Expose Downside of Overdevelopment in L.A.

As developers keep building bigger and bigger residential and
commercial projects here, recent study reveals that Los Angeles is home
to 11 of the 30 worst traffic bottlenecks in the nation.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Advocates from AIDS
Healthcare Foundation
(AHF) concerned about the impact that
overdevelopment in Los Angeles is having on quality of life have
spearheaded a new advocacy and awareness campaign intended to educate
area residents about the growing problem in the city and region.

Stop Manhattanwood! is the title of the new awareness and
advocacy campaign featuring billboards and online elements (www.stopManhattanwood.org)
to educate concerned citizens in Los Angeles and elsewhere about the
impact that this tremendous growth and overdevelopment in Los
Angeles—particularly in the Greater Hollywood area—is having on the
overall quality of life in the city.

The ad campaign launched earlier this week with the posting of five (5)
‘Stop Manhattanwood’ billboards located at: Vine & Santa Monica;
Cahuenga, north of Sunset (above the Jack in the Box); Sunset
& Van Ness
(near Denny’s); Melrose, west of La Brea; and
at Western & Lexington Avenues.

The awareness and advocacy campaign is separate from the Coalition to
Preserve L.A.’s ‘Neighborhood Integrity Initiative,’ a grassroots
community-driven ballot measure to rein in ‘mega’ development in Los
Angeles over the next few years. AHF is part of the Coalition to
Preserve L.A.; however, the Stop Manhattanwood advocacy campaign is a
parallel effort to educate all Angelenos and others—not just
voters—about the specific impact that such overdevelopment may have,
such as on overall quality of life, as well as traffic and congestion in
the region.

A point in fact: as developers keep building bigger and bigger
residential and commercial projects here in the Southland, a recent and widely
reported study
released in late November by the American
Highway Users Alliance
revealed that Los Angeles is home to 11 of
the 30 worst traffic bottlenecks in the nation. Several of the 11
bottlenecks in Los Angeles are adjacent to where developers and city
officials have concentrated their efforts to approve and execute new
developments.

The Stop Manhattanwood campaign will run for approximately three months.
