Annual Survey from Braun Thermometers Reveals 3 out of 4 Moms Still Suffer from Fever Phobia

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/BraunTherms?src=hash” target=”_blank”gt;#BraunThermslt;/agt;–Braun Thermometers, a Helen of Troy Limited (NASDAQ, NM: HELE) brand,
and the #1 brand most recommended by pediatricians1,
conducted an annual survey which found that most moms surveyed with
children 0-2 years old are uninformed and scared when it comes to how to
respond to their child’s fever. Almost 3 out of 4 moms surveyed (73%)
fear the potential of their child getting a high fever.

The survey revealed that although 84% of surveyed moms say they
understand that a fever means their child is fighting off an illness,
they still feel a great deal of anxiety when it comes to how to respond.
In fact, 82% of those moms acknowledge they lay awake at night worrying
about how a fever could impact their child when they are ill.

“This fear, commonly referred to as ‘Fever Phobia,’ is completely
natural,” said Lara Peterson, Vice President of Healthcare Marketing at
Helen of Troy Health and Home. “In most cases, it’s not even the fever
itself that’s concerning, but the fear of possible complications or
accompanying symptoms. This fear is often the result of misinformation.”

The survey also revealed that a child’s fever can have a profound effect
on parents and siblings, alike. According to the Braun Survey, 1 out of
2 surveyed moms say they’ve missed more than one day of work because
they had a feverish child. And 46% of the moms said it takes at least
two days for their household to return to normal following a fever.

“When your child or someone you love is under the weather, it’s
important that you have everything you need to respond, including a
thermometer you can trust to provide the most accurate reading
possible,” adds Peterson. “Braun’s clinically proven and
pediatrician-recommended technology gives moms (and dads) the confidence
and peace of mind to know that they can get an accurate and gentle
reading in just seconds.”
