Assisted Living Facility The Haven at Windermere Selects Ascom teleCARE IP Emergency Call

Resident safety and security critical to privately-owned, long term
senior care center

RALEIGH, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Resident safety and security are critical to privately-owned, long term
senior care center The
Haven at Windermere
. That’s why the Baton Rouge, Louisiana facility
upgraded its emergency call system and enhanced resident safety and
security by installing a new teleCARE IP solution from Ascom,
the leading global healthcare information and communication technology
(ICT) provider. Alongside partner Executone
of Louisiana
, Ascom’s clinical and technical teams implemented a
solution specifically designed to streamline resident and caregiver
communication and improve staff efficiency.

When you live at The Haven, we want you to be happy.

The Haven’s management and staff know that this line is more than a
motto. Maintaining their outstanding reputation was one of the primary
drivers for selecting Ascom to replace their outdated emergency call
system. As the senior care market continues to grow in both size and
competitiveness, leveraging the latest technology to keep residents safe
is key when marketing their facility. The staff truly understand how
important it is for families to enjoy the peace of mind that their loved
one is cared for exceptionally well.

“We had an old call system that was just outdated and didn’t work
anymore,” says Denise Ortego, Executive Director at The Haven at
Windermere. “The staff had pagers and if a resident in an apartment
would push their button or if they wandered, the pager was supposed to
go off. Unfortunately, that didn’t always happen. Since we installed
teleCARE IP with Ascom and Executone, our residents appreciate the
immediacy of pushing the button on their pendants or wristband and
quickly hearing a reassuring voice. Our care team is much more efficient
and can prioritize the more urgent requests and easily locate residents
within the facility.“

Through discussions with The Haven‘s staff about their daily routines,
common activities and frequent request times and types, Ascom’s clinical
team worked with the center’s longtime vendor and Ascom Partner
Executone of Louisiana to incorporate the elements of teleCARE IP most
beneficial to them. In speaking with the residents, their biggest desire
was for independence but with the security of knowing that help is only
a button press away. The results of the implementation are literally
life changing, with caregivers now able to talk live to residents using
the speech mode and a vastly improved response time. And with their new
Ascom mobile devices, the staff can now discern whether a call is a real
emergency and prioritize accordingly.

As a longtime partner, Executone of Louisiana relies on the expertise
provided by Ascom’s engineers and RNs (Registered Nurses) for The Haven
project. “What made the difference in this project, and with all of our
Ascom sites, are their people and the relationships they forge with the
end-users and my team,“ said Ronnie Juneau, President of Executone of
Louisiana. “Our technical staff works seamlessly with the engineers and
nurses at Ascom, and the customer support and training we receive is
just phenomenal.”

In addition to a collaborative partner approach, another key to Ascom’s
successful healthcare workflow implementations is to make clinical
consulting available at every stage of a technology implementation.
Julia Greer, RN, a Clinical Application Specialist at Ascom, explains
that this approach is unique in the marketplace. “Whenever we work with
a customer, we use our nursing background and ask our clients questions
about what they want from the system, what are their goals and
objectives to help them do their jobs better.” She says, “We spend time
doing that pre-consultation work to gather the information, and then
work with the actual implementation engineer to design an ideal solution
to reach their goals.”

Winner of a Frost & Sullivan 2016
Best Practices Award for Nurse Workflow Solutions
, Ascom’s expansive
line of healthcare workflow solutions gives clinicians real-time access
to patient information so they can provide higher-quality care. Ascom’s
patient alert system with integrated escalation capabilities ensures
that caregivers receive acuity-based, prioritized alerts that enable
them to respond in a timely manner.
