“We had an old call system that was just outdated and didn’t work
anymore,” says Denise Ortego, Executive Director at The Haven at
Windermere. “The staff had pagers and if a resident in an apartment
would push their button or if they wandered, the pager was supposed to
go off. Unfortunately, that didn’t always happen. Since we installed

immediacy of pushing the button on their pendants or wristband and
quickly hearing a reassuring voice. Our care team is much more efficient
and can prioritize the more urgent requests and easily locate residents
within the facility.“

Through discussions with The Haven‘s staff about their daily routines,
common activities and frequent request times and types, Ascom’s clinical
team worked with the center’s longtime vendor and Ascom Partner
Executone of Louisiana to incorporate the elements of teleCARE IP most
beneficial to them. In speaking with the residents, their biggest desire
was for independence but with the security of knowing that help is only
a button press away. The results of the implementation are literally
life changing, with caregivers now able to talk live to residents using
the speech mode and a vastly improved response time. And with their new
Ascom mobile devices, the staff can now discern whether a call is a real
emergency and prioritize accordingly.
