Athletic TIPS™ Commends Villanova Basketball Champions for Unique Hydration Method

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AthleticTIPSAthletic
TIPS
™ (Towards Injury Prevention in Sports), a national,
not-for-profit organization that drives expanded awareness and education
around the role of multi-disciplinary care in the recognition,
management and prevention of sports-related injuries, recognizes Villanova
University’s Basketball Team
for its unique hydration testing method
designed to identify and alleviate dehydration among athletes. According
to experts at Athletic TIPS™, proper hydration is key to optimizing
health, preventing and recovering from injuries and enhancing athletic
performance.

Referencing Villanova’s hydration method – which has been in place for
more than a year and has proven to eliminate a significant number of
soft tissue injuries among team players – Strength Coach John Shackleton
says: “Everyday an hour before practice I am in the locker room – I test
their urine to see how hydrated they are. It makes them more aware of
how they feel when they are hydrated versus when they’re dehydrated. (…)
I think the guys are realizing what being hydrated feels like – Their
joints don’t hurt, and same thing with their muscles. When you’re
dehydrated your muscles are going to be stiff. The guys are realizing
that they’re feeling better from being hydrated.”

In an effort to recognize, manage and prevent sports-related injuries,
Athletic TIPS™ provides a rigorous, online training program for doctors
of chiropractic (DC) to become certified to conduct educational
workshops in their local communities. To date, the certification program
consists of the following modules:

  • Preventing Dehydration and Heat-Related Conditions
  • Concussion Recognition and Prevention
  • Nutrition in Sports Management
  • Recognizing, Managing and Preventing Musculoskeletal Injuries

Joe Carabello, co-founder, Athletic TIPS™, explains, “Villanova’s
hydration testing method embodies the mission of Athletic TIPS™. It is
critical that athletes, their coaches, educators, parents and community
leaders are implementing proper protocol, such as the hydration method,
to reinforce the importance of good health, which will ultimately lead
to athletic success.” He continues, “Hats off to Villanova for ensuring
the health and well-being of its players comes first, and for its recent
2016 Championship – Well deserved!”
