th
anniversary of the Zilker Tree

AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Trail of Lights Foundation unveiled details for this year’s 52nd
anniversary Trail of Lights celebration, returning to Zilker Park
Saturday, Dec. 10 through Friday, Dec. 23. The Austin Trail of Lights,
powered by H-E-B, is a beloved community event that hosts local and
global visitors for a unique holiday experience framed by more than 2
million lights.

With returning favorites such as the North Pole, Santa’s Workshop and
the Yule Log, this authentically Austin event continues to honor the
past while bringing new and exciting additions to its more than 400,000
attendees. Whether celebrating the 50th anniversary of the
Zilker Tree, presented by Google Fiber, or walking the 1.2 miles through
the more than 50 displays, the Trail of Lights attracts Austinites of
all ages for an evening (or two!) of holiday fun, good eats and the
magic of the season.

“Whether you’re taking a stroll down memory lane with your family,
spinning with your friends under the Zilker Tree during its 50th
year or enjoying the 2 million lights illuminating the 50-plus displays,
the Austin Trail of Lights offers unique holiday fun that everyone
across the city—and beyond—must experience,” said Leah Davies, board
president at the Trail of Lights Foundation. “The Trail of Lights and
the Zilker Tree are Austin holiday landmarks, and we are so excited to
kick off another amazing season.”

Highlights for the 2016 event include classics such as photos at Santa’s
House presented by Dell Children’s, the classic carousel and Ferris
wheel, H-E-B book giveaway, and an interactive Santa’s Workshop—where
visitors can create their own holiday videos—presented by Vista Equity
Partners. The annual Night Lights preview party will also feature local
musical favorites Shinyribs and Greyhounds. Foodies can enjoy many of
Austin’s beloved food trucks such as East Side King, Burro Cheese
Kitchen, Austin’s Pizza, Amy’s Ice Creams and more throughout the Trail.

The Trail of Lights Foundation continues to produce the event with
support from the business community and from individual donations.

“We love celebrating the holidays with the Trail of Lights and are
excited to return for our fifth year to celebrate family connections in
Austin,” said Leslie Sweet, director of public affairs at H-E-B, title
sponsor of the Trail of Lights. “We’ve given more than 250,000 books to
children over the past four years, and can’t wait to share the joy of
reading again at this year’s event by giving a free book to each child!”
