California Virtual Academy @ Sonoma Welcomes Students Back to School
— K-12 students return to online public school August 29 —
SIMI VALLEY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–North Bay-area students are powering up their computers and heading back
to school this fall in the comfort of their own home, having chosen to
attend the full-time, tuition-free, online public school, California
Virtual Academy @ Sonoma (CAVA @ Sonoma). Students will begin their
2016-2017 school year on August 29 as the program marks its 14th
year of operation in the state.
CAVA @ Sonoma, which is open to students in grades K through 12, is one
of 10 independent charter schools in California that offer students in
grades K–12 a unique learning experience.
Students who enroll at CAVA @ Sonoma use the K12
online curriculum and follow an academic program that includes
web-based lessons and age-appropriate instructional materials – books,
videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – shipped directly to
each student’s home. (Common household materials and office supplies
such as printer ink and paper are not provided.) Instruction, guidance
and support are provided by California-credentialed teachers who
interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms,
online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.
The innovative curriculum and technology, combined with a strong
partnership between families and teachers, creates an opportunity for
teachers to focus on each student’s academic needs, and gives a growing
number of students a powerful educational option to reach their true
potential.
Families enroll in CAVA @ Sonoma for a wide variety of reasons. Some
students are advanced learners, motivated to increase their knowledge
beyond the basic course offerings, while others are athletes or
performers looking to balance a full schedule.
“The students that enroll in CAVA @ Sonoma seek a personalized learning
experience that enables them to excel and explore their own learning
style,” said Kimberly Odom, Director of Special Education. “Each student
receives quality instruction and support in a one-on-one setting as they
grow throughout the year.”
