Citibank to Support Teletón USA Campaign to Aid Children with Disabilities, Cancer and Autism in the U.S.

In an effort to provide aid to children with disabilities, cancer, and autism in the United States, Citibank today announced that it will support Teletón USA’s second annual fundraiser by accepting donations in its branches across the country and providing the organization with a $300,000 donation during its telethon event. Citibank’s support of Teleton USA builds off of Banamex’ 17-year history serving as the Bank of Teleton in Mexico.

“Citibank is proud to partner with Teletón USA again this year to make it simpler and easier for people to donate funds and make a difference in the lives of children,” said Cece Stewart, President, U.S. Consumer and Commercial Banking, Citi. “It is great news that construction of the first rehabilitation center in the U.S. has begun with funds raised by Teletón USA, and we hope that our continued support will help the center transform the lives of children with disabilities and their families.”

“We want to thank all the people who donated last year and invite everyone to continue their support to Teletón USA,” said Fundación Teletón President Fernando Landeros Verdugo. “Through our partner Citibank, together we will change the lives of many children and their families.”

To drive financial support for Teletón USA, Citibank branches across the U.S. will be equipped to accept cash or check contributions from customers, employees and community residents until December 31, 2013. Teletón USA’s major source of funding is an annual, 28-hour TV event on December 13-15, 2013, produced and aired in conjunction with Univision Communications Inc. More than 50 select U.S. branches will stay open for extended hours to receive donations during the telethon on Saturday, December 14, 2013. For information on participating branches please visit www.citibank.com. Customers will also be able to make donations via Citibank Online through a link to www.Teletónusa.org.

The initiative is a continuation of Citibank’s participation in 2012, the inaugural year for Teletón USA. Last year, Citibank collected $1.4 million in contributions and donated an additional $250,000 towards the total $8.1 million raised. This year, Teletón USA aims to raise $15 million.

Teletón USA seeks to serve children with neuromusculoskeletal disabilities, cancer and autism. To accomplish its goal, TeletónUSA will build and operate Children´s Rehabilitation Centers across the U.S. Construction of the first state-of-the-art, 45,000-square-foot facility in San Antonio, Texas began in August 2013 and is expected to be completed in less than a year.

Teletón USA is aligned with Teletón Mexico, which has built 21 Childrens’ Rehabilitation Centers, an Autism Center and a Children´s Cancer Hospital, all currently serving more than 90,000 patients. Teletón Mexico is the only rehabilitation system in the world with 19 Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) certified centers, with more than 2,500 staff members and more 3,000 volunteers.
