CSC Charitable Foundation Launching Youth Computer Coding Challenge in 2017

CSC Codes Inspires 10- to 14-Year-olds to Submit Computer Program
Coding Projects for Learning, Fun, Prizes and Recognition

TYSONS, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The CSC Charitable Foundation on Jan. 9, 2017 is launching a global
technology-based learning challenge, “CSC Codes,” which invites children
ages 10 to 14 to submit computer program coding projects for a chance at
local prizes and a global championship. The CSC Charitable Foundation is
the philanthropic arm of CSC
(NYSE: CSC), a global leader in next-generation IT services and
solutions.

The goal of CSC Codes is to grow interest in STEM Education worldwide.
The initiative is intended to be a fun way for youth to discover
computer science through an engaging programming challenge. Schools and
independent youth groups are encouraged to participate.

“Kids can code! We hope CSC Codes will inspire a passion for programming
among youth and learn that computer science is an enjoyable, fun, and
easy to develop skill,” said Dan Hushon,
CSC’s chief technology officer. All that is required to participate in
the competition is access to a computer, an internet connection and
imagination.

“Technology is everywhere, changing every industry on the planet yet
only one in four schools teach computer science,” Hushon continued. “The
world will need an enormous workforce of future technologists. The CSC
Charitable Foundation is committed to enabling our youth with the
awareness and skills to make the most of these opportunities.”

Children ages 10 to 14, in teams of three, can submit coding projects
online in one of two categories defined by age. Teams will have six
weeks to develop and submit their online project, which will be reviewed
by a panel of judges for creativity, originality, technical merit and
accuracy, as well as good programming practices. Winning teams in the
various categories will receive prizes with the opportunity to advance
to the global championship in a location to be determined in 2017.

On January 9, 2017, the CSC Charitable Foundation will release specifics
about the CSC Codes challenge. Additional information on the program
including team registration details is available at: www.csc.com/csccodes.

The CSC Charitable Foundation is a registered 501(c) charity in the
