Daystar School to Expand in Chicago Through Receipt of Assets of Humboldt Community Christian School

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Daystar School and Humboldt Community Christian School announced that,
in partnership, they have entered into a definitive agreement for
Daystar School to receive the assets of Humboldt Community Christian
School (HCCS) upon its dissolution this spring. This decision was made
after the HCCS board explored a variety of options to remain open as an
independent entity and determined that it was no longer feasible to do
so in light of declining enrollment and increasing costs. Daystar has
for 20 years operated with excellence in Christian education, excelling
at fostering an ethnically and socio-economically diverse community
providing individualized, nurturing learning environments. The
transaction is expected to be finalized by July 1, 2017.

Both boards saw an opportunity to continue the HCCS legacy, preserve the
mission of quality Christian education for the Humboldt Park community
and leverage the Daystar brand by transferring the operations of
Humboldt Community Christian School to Daystar School. “The agreement
between Daystar School and HCCS means that our students have the option
and opportunity to continue their education in a setting that shares our
values and that provides a well-resourced student-learning environment
to ensure achievement and success,” said Kerwin Rodriguez, Vice
President, HCCS Board of Directors.

Daystar School, in Chicago’s South Loop, is a well-established school
with a growing student body and current enrollment of 300 students from
Pre Kindergarten – 8th grade. The school, an International
Baccalaureate candidate school, recently expanded the leadership team to
include an Upper School Principal, Mr. Ashanti Bryant, for additional
programing and population growth. Daystar’s intent is to open a high
school to expand their model of excellence in Christian education from
Preschool through 12th grade.

Tamara Doig, Principal of Daystar School commented, “We are honored to
be the school that will further the work that HCCS started in Humboldt
Park and look forward to welcoming the HCCS community into our own.
While many questions remain to be answered in this process, we are
committed to moving forward in a caring manner consistent with our
shared mission and values.”

For families living in or near the city of Chicago, Daystar is the
multi-cultural elementary school that provides a caring, learning
environment that values and leverages the diversity of the city, our
urban location, high academic standards and Christian worldview to
develop tomorrow’s global citizens.
