Ebates Taps Stars From Twin Peaks and Mr. Robot for New Ad Campaign

New Ebates’ ads feature humorous take on skepticism about cash back
shopping

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Ebates,
a leader and pioneer in cash back shopping and subsidiary of the global
internet services company Rakuten, announced a new television and online
ad campaign that aims to dispel skepticism about cash back shopping.

Created by San Francisco’s Duncan/Channon, the humorous campaign is set
in a “Skeptics Anonymous” support group as the attendees grapple with
the idea that it’s actually possible to get real cash back for shopping
online. In one of the spots, the scene opens on the group lying on the
ground, indulging in “laugh therapy.”

“There’s no way Ebates gives cash back at my favorite stores,” a man
says between laughs. The moderator of the group assures him they do, and
the room falls silent when she snaps a “Big Fat Check” out for them to
see. View Ebates’ new “Skeptics Anonymous” spots here:

“All the ads in the new campaign are funny, upbeat and informative,”
said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates. “The ads address a key concern
shoppers may have—that getting paid to shop is too good to be
true—directly, boldly and with humor. We’re excited to invest in this
campaign as a way to build the Ebates brand among shoppers.”

Directed by duo Adam & Dave, who were recently nominated for an award by
the Canadian Screen Awards for their work on the sketch comedy series “A
Dore to Winnipeg,” the videos feature Aaron Takahashi of Mr. Robot and
Kimberly Robertson of Twin Peaks, who will be reprising her role as Lucy
in the much-anticipated sequel to the beloved David Lynch series in
early 2017.

“When we hear that Ebates pays us money for simply doing the shopping we
were already going to do, our skepticism meters redline,” said executive
creative director, Anne Elisco-Lemme. “This campaign hangs a lantern on,
and has fun with, that natural skepticism. If even the pathologically
skeptical among us can start to see the light, surely we can, too.”

The ads began airing on TV September 12 and will also be featured on
Facebook and other select online outlets, including Ebates’ social
channels. Holiday-themed spots are planned for later this year.
