FOX, ABC Outlets in LA to Air AHF Condom Ad during Prime Time

Spot to air on ‘Family Guy,’ ‘The Bachelor,’ Feb. 7th
& 8
th. AHF lauds stations for airing public
health spot, “This is Real Talk,” for breaking new ground, as similar
AHF condom spots were previously rejected.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AIDS
Healthcare Foundation
(AHF), which operates the largest
community-based alternative HIV and sexually transmitted disease (STD)
testing program in California, will air a straightforward, teen-focused
public health commercial promoting condom use (‘This is Real Talk’) on
Fox and ABC networks in the Los Angeles market this weekend. The paid
HIV prevention commercial will air in primetime spots, specifically
during the bawdy animated series, ‘Family Guy’ and the risqué reality
program, ‘The Bachelor’.

This
is Real Talk
’ features a father and his 17 year-old son, Dan. The
action unfolds as Dan, rushing from the house, pivots to borrow the car
keys from his dad, who offers both advice—real talk—and some condoms to
Dan’s somewhat bewildered embarrassment. As his father then advises him
to be careful and not to be late, Dan agrees, pausing to say a genuine,
“Thanks, dad.”

AHF President Michael Weinstein lauds this as an important
milestone in public health advertising, considering the Los Angeles FOX
Television network affiliate’s prior refusal
just five years ago when AHF tried to purchase commercial time for a
similar fact-based 30 second
spot
starring actress/activist Sheryl Lee Ralph during the
Sunday evening broadcast of FOX’s popular animated series ‘Family Guy’,
a show notorious for its raunchy and racy content.

“This is a pivotal moment for public health advertising. For years we’ve
faced roadblocks from networks and outdoor vendors who prevent
dissemination of crucial STD prevention and treatment information
because they object to the frank nature of our sexual health and
advocacy messages. I applaud the Fox and ABC networks for their evolved
outlook on relatable advertising that will spark ‘real talk’ among
viewers,” said AHF President Michael Weinstein.

The spot will air during KTTV-TV Los Angeles Fox 11’s ‘Family Guy’
episode on 2/7/16 between 9:00pm-9:30pm, and during KABC7 Los Angeles’
‘The Bachelor’ episode on 2/8/16 between 8:00pm-10:00pm.

AHF has faced repeated roadblocks to both billboard
and commercial
campaigns
promoting STD/HIV testing and treatment, drug
pricing
issue awareness and calls to end homophobia.
