Gloria Steinem One of Four Leaders to Be Honored at A CALL TO MEN’s 2017 Gala – Actor and Activist Matt McGorry to Keynote
Joe and Alice Torre from the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation and
Alan Gardner from Verizon will also be honored for their commitment to
preventing violence against all women and girls
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#NextGenManhood–A CALL TO MEN’s 2017 Gala will celebrate the organization’s 15th
anniversary and honor individuals who promote healthy, respectful
manhood, and prevent violence and discrimination against all women and
girls. Their work and your support furthers A CALL TO MEN’s vision: to
create a world where all men and boys are loving and respectful and all
women and girls are valued and safe. The 2017 honorees include:
Gloria Steinem, writer, lecturer, political activist and feminist
organizer
Steinem will receive the Envisionary Award,
which pays tribute to women whose vision, leadership and action help
create a world where all men and boys are loving and respectful, and all
women and girls are valued and safe. The award will be presented by
Jennifer and Peter Buffett, co-presidents of the NoVo Foundation, and
Pamela Shifman, executive director of the NoVo Foundation.

Foundation
The Torres will receive the Next Generation
of Manhood Award, which honors individuals who embrace and promote a
healthy, respectful manhood, and use their platform to raise awareness
for the prevention of violence against all women and girls. The award
will be presented by Allan Houston, assistant general manager of the New
York Knicks, general manager of the Westchester Knicks, and president of
Allan Houston Enterprises.
Alan Gardner, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Verizon
Communications
Gardner will receive the award for Institutional
Change, which honors an individual or organization using their influence
to promote healthy, respectful manhood and prevent violence against all
women and girls at the institutional level. The award will be presented
by Rose Kirk, chief corporate social responsibility officer for Verizon.
The event will be keynoted by Actor and Activist Matt McGorry, of
“Orange Is the New Black” and “How to Get Away with Murder.” A
self-described Feminist, McGorry has often been praised for his cultural
and political advocacies, and for using his platform to elevate thought
provoking and socially conscious issues. Richard Lui, anchor at MSNBC,
will serve as emcee. Lui’s enterprise reporting has focused on
humanitarian issues including gender equality and human trafficking.
