Goodwill San Antonio Board Appoints Interim Leader for Organization

SAN ANTONIO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Goodwill San Antonio today announced it has appointed an interim chief
executive officer. Kevin Bergner, a former Major General in the United
States Army will start work at Goodwill headquarters on Commerce Street
immediately. Janelle Sykes, chair of the Goodwill San Antonio board of
directors, made the announcement.

“We are pleased to have an interim chief executive officer with 30 years
of military service as well as executive experience at USAA as chief
administrative officer and then president of their property and casualty
insurance business,” she said. “Our board is delighted that he has a
heart for our mission and proven experience in strategic planning,
leadership development and transformational management as we continue to
grow and expand our services to the San Antonio community.”

“I am honored and humbled to join the leadership team at Goodwill San
Antonio,” Bergner said. “The Goodwill team’s mission is an important one
in our community, and the employees of Goodwill are people who make a
difference every day in the lives of the people they serve. I will work
closely with the board and executive team to make sure Goodwill
employees are well-supported in continuing their service to our
community.”

Bergner graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in business administration, and was commissioned in the United
State Army as a Field Artillery officer. He later earned a Masters
Degree in Public Administration from City University of New York. He
served twice in Germany, as well as three deployments in Iraq. In
2006-2007, he served as a Special Assistant to the President of the
United States and senior director on the National Security Council.
Later, he served as the Army’s Chief of Public Affairs.

Sykes said that Bergner’s appointment was the first of a two-step
process for Goodwill, adding, “We are more than pleased to have Kevin on
board on an interim basis, which both gives us the certainty of
first-class leadership and allows us the time we need to complete a
national search for our permanent CEO.”
