Green Mountain Coffee Café and Visitor Center Celebrates 10th Anniversary in Waterbury

All invited on October 6th for free drip
coffee, roasting demonstrations, and a coffee showdown

WATERBURY, Vt.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–On Thursday, October 6th, the Green Mountain Coffee®
Café and Visitor Center, located at the historic Waterbury Train
Station, invites the community to its 10th Anniversary
Celebration. The special event will take place throughout the day at the
Café and Visitor Center at 1 Rotarian Place in Waterbury featuring free
drip coffee, roasting demonstrations, specials, and a coffee showdown,
where guests can taste new coffee creations and vote to get their
favorite on the menu. A toast will be held at 4:45 PM to commemorate the
Café’s 10th anniversary in Waterbury, Vermont, as well as the
25th anniversary of Revitalizing Waterbury.

Excitement has been brewing in Waterbury’s historic train station since
it was restored in 2006 by Revitalizing Waterbury and the Green Mountain
Coffee Roasters Foundation. From local residents to tourists, the Green
Mountain Coffee® Café and Visitor Center sees nearly 200,000
visitors each year. After a complete refresh of the interior this
spring, the landmark is hotter than ever. Adorned with photography taken
by employees during the company’s annual Employee Source Trips to coffee
growing regions, visitors are invited to wander through the rich,
35-year history of Green Mountain Coffee®, take part in
hands-on education about specialty coffee and the roasters’
award-winning coffees, and enjoy one of the staff’s coffee creations in
the lounge, from artfully pulled espresso to decadent Pecan Pie Supreme.
The Café is also the only retail store where visitors can find rare
Green Mountain Coffee® blends like Kenyan Highlands
Cooperative, and also mix-and-match their own variety boxes from 48
different K-Cup® pod varieties in the Keurig®
Singles kiosk.

“After ten years as a part of the Waterbury community, we wanted to
transform the Green Mountain Coffee Café and Visitor Center into a space
that was truly representative of the unsurpassed quality, variety, and
sustainability that we’ve come to expect from our homegrown Green
Mountain Coffee brand, all while celebrating its groundbreaking roots in
specialty coffee,” said Laine Ogden, Store Manager at the Green Mountain
Coffee® Visitors Center and Café. “Of course, it’s all about
the coffee: serving our regulars their go-to brew each morning, showing
visitors how coffee is roasted, watching community meetings on the
porch…In the end, we’re here because of the community, so it’s only
natural to invite everyone to celebrate our anniversary on October 6th!”

Celebrating its 25th year in the community, Revitalizing
Waterbury (RW) was founded in 1991 by a handful of Waterbury citizens
committed to restoring the historic Stimson and Graves block, located at
the corner of Main and Stowe Streets. By 1997, the group set their
sights on restoring the iconic Waterbury Train Station at the center of
the village. Working with Great American Station Foundation, the Vermont
Agency of Transportation, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Foundation,
Revitalizing Waterbury re-opened the train station with the Green
Mountain Coffee Café and Visitor Center to great fanfare in 2006. Also
in 2006, RW became Vermont’s 22nd Designated Downtown,
allowing RW’s work to broaden beyond bricks and mortar projects to a
more holistic approach to revitalization that includes strengthening the
local economy, encouraging physical improvements, and developing special
events and promotional programs. Once again, RW finds itself at the cusp
of change, spurred by the changes in the community after Tropical Storm
Irene. In 2015, RW hired an economic development director whose purpose
is to encourage and support sustainable and responsible economic growth
in Waterbury. This past year RW began the process of merging with the
Waterbury Tourism Council to bring all promotional activities under one
umbrella. A new merged mission, board of directors and name will be
announced soon.

“2016 is a special year for us. Revitalizing Waterbury is celebrating 25
years of supporting and preserving downtown Waterbury, including the
renovation of the historic Waterbury Train Station,” said Karen Nevin,
Executive Director of Revitalizing Waterbury. “Our partnership with
Green Mountain Coffee extends many years, and is continuously
strengthened by our connection through this beautiful and historic
building. Please come and join us for our anniversary party on October
6th!”

The Green Mountain Coffee Café and Visitor Center is located at 1
Rotarian Place, off Park Row behind Rusty Parker Park in downtown
