Keller Rohrback Investigates Data Breach Targeting Children at VTech Holdings Ltd.
SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Attorney Advertising. Keller
Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating recent reports
that a cyber-attack on the digital toymaker VTech Holdings Ltd. (HKSE:0303)
exposed the data of 6.4 million children. This could potentially be the largest
ever attack targeting children.
VTech Holding Ltd., a Hong Kong company specializing in digital learning
toys and cordless phones, announced
that an “unauthorized party accessed VTech customer data housed on our
Learning Lodge app store database on November 14, 2015.” The customer
database accessed contained general user profile information including
names, email addresses, birthdays, encrypted passwords, secret questions
and answers for password retrieval, IP addresses, mailing addresses, and
download history.
Hackers were also able
to access tens of thousands of pictures of parents and children as
well as chat logs between children and parents. The server also
contained audio files that appear to be recordings of children’s voices.
The photos, chat logs, and audio recordings are all tied to specific
usernames, allowing identification of the images with the personal data
provided to VTech. VTech has yet to respond about why they store the
photos and chat logs on their servers.
