Keller Rohrback Investigates Hello Kitty Database Cyber Attack

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Attorney Advertising. Keller
Rohrback L.L.P.
is investigating recent reports
that the popular website SanrioTown.com ‒ the official website for Hello
Kitty and other Sanrio (OTC Pink:SNROF)
toy brands ‒ fell victim to a cyber attack that left over three million
users’ personal information at risk. The majority of users are children.

SanrioTown
is an online interactive community Sanrio-themed portal and social
networking site. Set up in 2002, the website is the official online
community for fans of the popular Sanrio brand.

On December 22, 2015, Sanrio Digital notified
its users that “personal information belonging to members of the
consumer website SanrioTown.com was publicly accessible owing to a
security vulnerability.” The databases included
users’ full names, birthdays, genders, nationalities, email addresses,
and password retrieval questions. This information is routinely used
to commit identity theft.
Children, who are unlikely to invest much
effort into hack-resistant passwords, are particularly vulnerable to
this kind of attack.

“Consumers should be able to trust that their children’s information is
safe and secure, particularly when they are using a website marketed
toward children,” said attorney Cari
Laufenberg
, a member of Keller Rohrback’s nationally-recognized
complex litigation group.
