LEGO Learning Symposium Explores New STEAM Teaching Methods for K-12 Education
Event fosters collaboration to inspire hands-on learning in the
classroom and recognizes innovative work of teachers worldwide
BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LEGO®
Education and Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and
Outreach (CEEO) are together hosting the LEGO
Learning Symposium, taking place June 6-7, 2016 at Tufts University
in Medford, MA. The event brings together worldwide educators to share
best practices and inspire playful learning techniques using the LEGO®
brick across K-12 science, engineering, mathematics, and literacy
disciplines.
The LEGO Learning Symposium will include a keynote presentation from
Mitchel Resnick, Director of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT
Media Lab. Attendees will gain hands-on experience using LEGO®
Education solutions in the classroom through workshops, teacher talks,
and dynamic round-table discussions designed to educate and support
teachers in building the next generation of creative thinkers and
problem solvers. The event is held in conjunction with the Tufts
STEM Education Conference.
“Today’s classroom environment should reflect the many different ways
students learn,” says Ethan Danahy, research assistant professor in
Tufts University School of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science
and the school’s Center for Engineering Education and Outreach. “To
accomplish this, we must come together as a community of educators to
explore the science behind learning. This symposium and the conference
being held at Tufts fosters an environment of collaboration, where
teachers can share their experiences using new and creative teaching
methods to inspire colleagues from around the world.”
As part of the event, LEGO Education will honor the receipts of the 2016
LEGO® Education Teacher Award and offer them a platform to
share their work. The award recognizes elementary and middle school
teachers from countries around the world who have incorporated the LEGO®
brick, curriculum, and software into their classrooms to achieve
learning outcomes across subjects while engaging with playful learning
experiences.
