Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundations’ Gift Names New Upstander Gallery at Illinois Holocaust Museum

SKOKIE, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#ilhmec–To inspire future generations to work for global social justice, the Illinois
Holocaust Museum & Education Center will open a three-gallery
exhibition experience called the Take A Stand Center in 2017. One
of these groundbreaking galleries, the Goodman Upstander
Gallery, will blend personal storytelling, video, and voice
recognition technology to explore the lives of courageous “Upstanders”
from around the world.

Named in appreciation of a generous gift from the Lillian and Larry
Goodman Foundations, the Goodman Upstander Gallery will connect
visitors to contemporary and historical social activists who have
championed a wide range of issues. “Story Portals” will put visitors in
the shoes of these heroes, inspiring them to create positive change in
the world.

Individuals selected for the Upstander Gallery represent a wide
range of ages, nationalities, and missions. Chosen with input from
numerous advisory groups, some of the Upstanders include historic
leaders Nelson Mandela, Susan B. Anthony, and Jane
Addams; artists and athletes Common and Carli Lloyd;
advocate Malala Yousafzai; and 11-year-old Marley Dias,
who raises awareness of the need for diversity in children’s literature.

The Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundations have been important supporters
of the Museum since its inception. The Foundations named the Lillian and
Larry Goodman Auditorium in 2007, and have supported the Museum’s annual
Humanitarian Awards Dinner. The naming of the Goodman Upstander Gallery
is part of the current $30M Commit to the Future capital campaign. Larry
Goodman has served as a Trustee of the Museum since 2010.
