Entries

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Lumina Media™, a leading media company that connects brands with
passionate audiences of enthusiasts by providing iconic content across
all platforms, and Veterinary
Practice News
magazine today announced the launch of its annual
“They Ate What?!” People’s Choice Contest.

For 11 years, Veterinary Practice News (VPN) has hosted the
annual “They Ate What?!” X-ray Contest, in which veterinarians submit
the strangest and craziest X-rays they’ve encountered in their
practices. The People’s
Choice Contest
allows the public to vote now until September 30,
2016, on the VPN team’s favorite 2016 “They Ate What?!” entries and be
entered for a chance to win $500, courtesy of IDEXX
Laboratories Inc
.

“Every year we look forward to the unbelievable yet amazing X-ray
submissions we receive from veterinary professionals from around the
country,” said Lumina Media executive editorial director Janine Kahn.
“With everything from rubber duckies to cheese knives, this year’s
entries were nothing short of extraordinary and we’re looking forward to
seeing which entry is named as the best of the best.”

This year’s “They Ate What?!” X-ray winner was Patricia Clark, DVM, of
German Flatts Veterinary Clinic in Ilion, N.Y. Her patient, a
5-month-old pit bull named Jasper, swallowed an 8-inch section of a dog
toy handle while playing with another dog.

For her winning image, Dr. Clark won a year’s subscription to IDEXX
Web PACS
, a ground breaking solution for accessing, storing and
sharing diagnostic images. IDEXX Web PACS is a cloud-based software that
will allow Dr. Clark to access diagnostic images such as x-rays and
ultrasounds from any web-enabled device and to keep an unlimited number
of images stored safely. The software also gives Dr. Clark an
interactive collaboration tool that will enable her to share, live chat
and annotate images real-time while consulting with colleagues,
specialists and clients online.

In addition to IDEXX
Web PACS
subscription valued at $2,400, Dr. Clark also received $500
courtesy of IDEXX. Dr. Clark gave the $500 prize to the owners to help
offset the cost of surgery.

Veterinary Practice News editor Ken Niedziela and a select group
of veterinarians judged this year’s entries, including:

  • Dr. Evan Antin, Thousand Oaks, Calif., veterinarian and People
    magazine’s “Sexiest Beast Charmer;”
  • Dr. Marty Becker, Sandpoint, Idaho, veterinarian and “In the Middle”
    columnist;
  • Dr. Patty Khuly, Miami veterinarian and “Off Leash” columnist;
  • Dr. Mary Beth Leininger, assistant vice president of veterinary
    relations at The Hartville Pet Insurance Group and former president of
    American Veterinary Medical Association;
  • Dr. Dennis M. McCurnin, Louisiana State University professor of
    surgery emeritus and LSU hospital director emeritus;
  • Dr. Narda Robinson, president and CEO of CureCora and “Evidence-based
    Medicine” columnist;
  • Dr. Alice Villalobos, director of Pawspice and Animal Oncology
    Consultation Service and occasional Veterinary Practice News columnist;

    Insights” columnist.
