LUNA® and Actress Gina Rodriguez Partner to Champion Women’s Equality and Drive Awareness for the 20 Percent Gender Pay Gap

Nutrition Bar is Discounted 20 Percent as Part of #20PercentCounts
Equal Pay Day Campaign

EMERYVILLE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#20PercentCounts–Women, on average, are paid 20 percent less than men. In recognition of
Equal Pay Day, LUNA®,
the first nutrition bar for women, is empowering everyone to show
support for pay equality. LUNA is shining a spotlight on the gender pay
gap in partnership with LeanIn.Org’s #20PercentCounts campaign by
offering a 20 percent discount on all LUNA Bars sold on LUNAbar.com
from April 3-11, 2017. LUNA will match the discount amount with a
donation, up to $100,000, to fund salary negotiation workshops in
partnership with AAUW.

LUNA is also partnering with Gina Rodriguez, a staunch supporter of
women’s equality. Playing off of Gina’s passion for boxing, the brand is
debuting an equality
video
that follows Rodriguez for a day of training in the ring. Her
strength, determination and resilience shine as an example to women
everywhere to keep moving forward in the journey for equality and pay
parity.

“I am proud to partner with LUNA to raise awareness for the gender pay
gap – a real issue far too many women face,” said Gina Rodriguez, LUNA
Equal Pay Day spokesperson. “If you are capable of doing a job, there is
no reason why you should get paid any less than anyone else doing the
exact same job. Together with LUNA, we’re raising awareness for equal
pay, and empowering women everywhere to never settle for the status quo.”

LUNA has always believed in the power of women and a world where equal
is equal. This Equal Pay Day, LUNA is proud to partner with LeanIn.Org
to champion women and show why today and every day, women deserve their
20 percent.

“Women on average are paid 20 percent less than men, and Black and
Hispanic women are paid even less. This hurts women, families and our
economy,” said LeanIn.Org president Rachel Thomas. “We’re proud to
partner with LUNA, a vocal supporter of women’s equality, to highlight
the unfairness of the gender pay gap because we can’t get to equality
until women are paid fairly for their work.”

For 18 years, LUNA has championed women’s equality, supporting women in
some areas where they have historically been underrepresented, including
film, sport and business – creating platforms so their voices can be
heard. The brand is behind breakthrough initiatives like LUNAFEST®,
an annual film festival by, for and about women that raises the
visibility of female filmmakers, as well as Team CLIF BAR (formerly Team
LUNA Chix®), a pro-sports team created by LUNA to strive for equal pay
in the sport of mountain biking. Most recently, LUNA provided financial
backing to Sundance Institute’s 2017
Women at Sundance Fellows
, awarding each fellow with a $10,000
grant, as well as funding two $15,000 women filmmaker awards at the 2017
SXSW Film Festival
.

“When creating LUNA, we continued our commitment to running a different
kind of business by empowering and championing women to break through
and never settle,” said Kit Crawford, co-chief visionary officer and
co-owner of Clif Bar & Company. “At LUNA, and throughout all of Clif Bar
& Company, we believe equal work means equal pay. While Equal Pay Day is
just one day, our work to level the playing field doesn’t end here. We
will continue efforts to help raise awareness to close the gender pay
gap and to support women everywhere.”

LUNA is sponsoring AAUW Work Smart salary negotiation workshops for
women across the country. By empowering women to negotiate their salary
and benefits packages, LUNA and AAUW are working to close the pay gap
one workshop at a time.

“We know that salary negotiation is not the only variable in the gender
pay gap, but it is true that women tend not to negotiate, and that
affects their earnings all the way through to retirement,” says AAUW
Board Chair Patricia Fae Ho. “We are so grateful to have LUNA’s support
spreading our negotiation workshops, because we know how well they work.
We hear from women every day that they used what they learned in AAUW
Work Smart immediately – and that it worked!”
