Michelson Found Animals Hosts 5th Annual Gala Honoring Leaders in Animal Welfare

Senator Cory Booker, Best Friends Animal Society and Halo, Purely for
Pets Among 2016 Honorees

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The
Michelson Found Animals Foundation
hosted its 5th annual
gala last weekend, where they honored outstanding leaders in the animal
welfare community. At a private event held at the W Hollywood, Michelson
Found Animals recognized key individuals and organizations for their
outstanding dedication to animals. United States Senator Cory Booker,
Best Friends Animal Society, along with Halo, Purely for Pets each
received the night’s honor for their efforts to save pets and bring
awareness to animals in need nationwide.

“Saving pets and enriching lives is our mission, but we can’t do it
alone; our honorees have gone above and beyond to support our cause,”
said Michelson Found Animals Executive Director Aimee Gilbreath. “We are
so grateful to these individuals and organizations for their
contributions, and for being a voice for animals.”

More about the 2016 Michelson Found Animals’ honorees:

U.S. Senator Cory
Booker
is a supporter of animal welfare both in his personal life
and on the Senate floor. Since being elected to the Senate in 2013,
Booker has co-sponsored a number of animal welfare bills, including the
Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act, which stops the abusive practice
of soring, or inflicting pain to exaggerate the high-stepping gaits of
horses, for certain show horses; and the Safeguard American Food Exports
Act, which would prohibit the slaughter of horses overseas for
consumption. Most recently, Booker co-sponsored the Puppies Assisting
Wounded Servicemembers (PAWS) Act, which would provide a $10 million
pilot program to pair service dogs with veterans with PTSD. Booker has
also been a vegetarian for over 20 years and has been a vegan since 2014.

Best
Friends Animal Society
is a national animal welfare organization
with the mission of ending the killing of shelter pets in this country.
Best Friends leads no-kill coalitions across the state of Utah and in
the city of Los Angeles, and has new centers of operations in New York
City and Atlanta as part of a national campaign to make the United
States a no-kill country by 2025.

For over 30 years, HALO,
Purely for Pets®
has created holistic pet products of
uncompromising quality. Halo, America’s Best Loved Holistic Brand,
believes nutrition is the single most important factor in the quality of
a pet’s life. Through their Halo Pet Foundation, they work to enhance
the well-being of pets and the people who love them, and strive to help
pets and their families live longer, happier, healthier lives together.
They seek to educate people on responsible pet ownership, eliminating
animal abuse and reducing the overpopulation of uncared for pets.

“I started this foundation because I believe in a better world for our
companion animals and refused to stand idly by,” said Dr. Gary
Michelson, founder of Michelson Found Animals Foundation. “While these
outstanding individuals and organizations don’t do what they do for fame
and glory, we believe it’s incredibly important to acknowledge them for
making a commitment to helping animals and encourage others to join the
effort. Together we can achieve more.”
