New Studies Aimed at L-Serine as Management of Lou Gehrig’s Disease Symptoms

DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–ARS Therapeutics™, a pioneer in the natural health supplements,
announced its launch of ALS Complete, featuring pharmaceutical grade
products formulated to support the health of patients diagnosed with Lou
Gehrig’s during various phases of disease. Formulated by advancements in
research and clinical studies on L-serine amino acid.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease,
is a progressive neuromuscular disease. ALS is characterized by a
progressive degeneration of motor nerve cells in the brain and spinal
cord. These motor nerves control voluntary movements and muscle control
and when motor neurons can no longer send impulses to the muscles, the
muscles begin to waste away, causing gradual onset of progressive muscle
weakness. Currently, there is no cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
and approximately 6,400 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each
year. Johns Hopkins states that 50 percent of affected patients live
three or more years after diagnosis; 20 percent live five years or more;
and only 10 percent will survive more than 10 years. Many ALS patients
today can live longer and more productive lives because of improvements
in medical management, including nutrition which may increase patient
quality of life.

L-serine is a natural, non-essential amino acid that is required for
proper motor neuron function. It helps protect against motor neuron gene
deformations. Recent findings are significant enough that the FDA is
currently conducting clinical trials in the United States to evaluate
the safety and efficacy of L-serine for patients with ALS. A notable
study from Harvard Medical School reported L-serine supplementation as a
possible first treatment option for ALS symptoms.
