Olympic Champion Visits Orthopaedic Institute for Children

Two-Time Olympic Medalist April Ross Visits Sports Medicine Center
to Meet Children and Celebrate United States’ Global Influence in Beach
Volleyball

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#injuryprevention–Two-time Olympic medalist April Ross visited the Center for Sports
Medicine at the Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) to meet with
physicians and children and to help dedicate a new wall celebrating
United States’ global achievements, contributions and influence in beach
volleyball.

Ross was a silver medalist at the 2012 Olympic games and a bronze
medalist in 2016. In her highly decorated collegiate career, Ross led
the University of Southern California to back-to-back NCAA titles and
was twice named first team All-American.

As part of her visit to OIC, Ross spoke with physicians about athletic
injury care and prevention, a topic of great interest to her as she
continues to compete at the highest level. Young athletes present unique
challenges due to the repetitive and high strain they put on their
bodies during what is often a year-round schedule of sporting activities.

Ross’ visit is a precursor to a special sports medicine conference that
will be held April 8 at OIC. The conference will provide certified
athletic trainers with the knowledge needed to properly diagnose, treat
and prevent common injuries in young athletes.

The Orthopaedic Institute for Children’s Center for Sports Medicine is a
state-of-the-art facility staffed by a specially trained team of sports
medicine physicians, pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, nurse
practitioners, medical assistants, athletic trainers and physical
therapists all focused on helping each child return to his or her sport
activities as quickly and safely as possible. “Our team specializes in
treating a broad range of today’s athletic injuries before they damage
tomorrow’s opportunities,” said Richard Bowen, M.D., director of the
Center for Sports Medicine at OIC. “Keeping young athletes in the game
is our top priority.”
