The Summit will convene stakeholders to build consensus for regulatory
framework that protects consumers and promotes innovation
FORT LEE, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Online Lenders Policy Institute today announced the speakers
and agenda for the first annual Marketplace Lending Policy Summit,
scheduled for September 13th at the Marriott Marquis in
Washington DC. Additional information and registration information for
the event is available at http://mplsummit.org.
The MPL Summit seeks to create an opportunity for industry participants
to share insights, propose standards and provide regulators and
policymakers with consensus viewpoints on the regulation of marketplace
lending. The MPL Summit will feature an exceptional group of
policymakers, academics, regulators, consumer advocates, and leading
businesses and industry experts. The Summit will include keynotes from
two policy leaders:
-
Thomas J. Curry, Comptroller of the Currency. Mr. Curry has
advocated the need to embrace innovation while ensuring that new
products and services do not present undue risk to the financial
system, will discuss how regulators and industry can work together on
“responsible innovation” and with principles for governing the rapidly
growing financial-technology sector. -
Congressman Patrick McHenry, (R, NC-10th),
House Financial Services Committee. Representative McHenry has
worked for the removal of obstacles to growth and innovation by
removing hurdles that impair “main street” entrepreneurs and has
advocated a new framework to encourage growth in Fintech and online
investing, such as crowdfunding and angel investing.
The MPL Summit is presented through a unique partnership between the
Center for Finance, Law & Policy, at Boston University and Cross River
Bank. This partnership will help facilitate an open and constructive
dialogue between the public and private sectors, and act as a catalyst
for the Online Lenders Policy Institute—which will be focused on
presenting reasonable solutions to meet the goal of responsible
innovation.
