Owens & Minor Joins Forces with A Soldier’s Child Foundation to Serve the Children of Fallen Soldiers

RICHMOND, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#asoldierschildOwens
& Minor, Inc.
(NYSE:OMI), a global healthcare services company,
has joined ranks on a national scale with A
Soldier’s Child Foundation (ASC)
, a non-profit foundation
that was formed to support the children of America’s fallen soldiers.
ASC spreads its efforts across all of the branches of the U.S. military
services and currently serves more than 2,500 children across all 50
states. By joining forces with ASC, Owens & Minor is bringing its
purpose-driven culture to life by serving as a leader for initiatives
that will create a better tomorrow for its communities.

“At Owens & Minor, we are committed to being a purpose-driven company
that shares our time, energy and resources with our communities,” said
P. Cody Phipps, President & Chief Executive Officer of Owens & Minor.
“The ASC Foundation gives us an excellent opportunity to extend our
purpose to those in our communities who might need our help. Together,
we make healing happen for these young people who have lost so much.”

In 2016, more than 200 Owens & Minor leaders from around the world
participated in an ASC birthday party event that coincided with a
leadership meeting. Teammates from one of Owens & Minor’s distribution
centers shopped for the gifts, while the leadership team wrapped the
presents and wrote messages of support for 150 children selected by ASC.
In the coming year, Owens & Minor intends to participate in a variety of
events with ASC in communities across the U.S., including an event on
December 12-13, 2016, in Ontario, California, where Owens & Minor has a
significant distribution center.

“As citizens of the United States of America, we are forever indebted to
the men and women who so unselfishly protect our freedoms,” said Daryl
J.W. Mackin, Executive Director & Founder of ASC. “It is our objective
to communicate through A Soldier’s Child to the children left behind
that the memory of their parents will not fade away. We want them to
know that there are many Americans who are forever grateful for their
parent’s sacrifice.”

ASC works with its partners and donors to celebrate birthdays and other
milestones of children who have lost a parent serving in active duty. In
addition, ASC offers a week-long summer “Journey Camp” for children,
mentorship programs, leadership-development programs for older children,
and opportunities for college scholarships. ASC engages its corporate
partners to actively participate in events where the groups purchase,
wrap and send birthday gifts and messages of support to children who
have lost a parent in military service. ASC also invites corporate
partners to participate in the Journey Camps and other outdoor events.
