PetSmart®, PetSmart Charities® Phoenix-Based Associates Unite to Give Back to Local Community in Unique, Impactful Ways

Retailer Donates Record Amount of Pet Food, Supplies, Gifts and More
to Help People and Pets in Need in the Area, Overseas

PHOENIX–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The season of giving is upon us, and the holiday spirit has inspired
Phoenix area associates from PetSmart
and PetSmart
Charities
– nearly 2,000 employees from its Phoenix Home Office,
local stores and distribution center — to help people and pets in need
this holiday season. This year, associates have banded together more
than ever before to make impactful contributions to the local Phoenix
community, demonstrating what the holidays are truly all about – a time
of giving.

“As a Phoenix-based company, it’s our desire and duty to give back to
the community that we call home,” said Michael Massey, President and CEO
of PetSmart. “This year, our associates in the Phoenix area united in
extraordinary ways to make the holidays a little brighter for both
people and pets in our local community and beyond. From fulfilling
holiday wishes of children here in Phoenix to supporting soldier dogs
overseas with much-needed dog care packages, we at PetSmart are
tremendously proud to see the collective passion of our associates and
the tremendous impact of giving this holiday season.”

Here’s a quick snapshot of the acts of kindness local Phoenix-based
PetSmart associates have implemented in the community:

Give or Gift Program

While the holiday season is frequently deemed the most joyous time of
year, it can also be the most stressful for families in need. PetSmart’s
Give or Gift Program provided members of the Phoenix Home Office with an
opportunity to “give” gently-used clothing, canned food and pet food or
“gift” items to fulfill holiday wishes of local children served by Child
Crisis Arizona
. Together, associates fulfilled the wishes of 150
children, totaling more than $18,000 in donated gifts and supplies like
diapers for families in need. In addition, associates donated nearly
2,500 items that will be distributed by Fresh Start Women’s Foundation
and HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank.

Bones from Home Supporting Military Working Dogs

According to Glendale-based Packages
From Home
, there are more than 2,700 Military Working Dogs (MWDs)
active worldwide. While in the field, these pets have minimal access to
proper nutrition, toys and daily care in war-torn conditions. To support
these four-legged heroes, PetSmart associates assembled 100 doggie care
packages filled with supplies for soldier dogs and their soldier pet
parents on-duty overseas — the most an individual organization has ever
contributed to the newly launched Bones
from Home
program facilitated by Packages From Home. The donations
went to Veterinary Services Medical Detachments overseas and included
treats, toys, water bowls, paw-pad cream, bath wipes and grooming tools
to provide temporary relief in unprecedented conditions.

180,000 Pet Food Cans Donated to HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank

During times of need or transition, pet parents will go to great lengths
to make sure their pets get the care they deserve. To ease the anxiety
of pet parents or families in need with a pet, PetSmart and PetSmart
Charities delivered more than 180,000 cans of Good Natured™ dog and cat
food to HonorHealth
Desert Mission Food Bank
to help those in need in the community feed
their pets this holiday season and beyond. The donation – valued at
nearly $290,000 – is in addition to the 7,000 pounds of pet food donated
monthly by PetSmart and PetSmart Charities and will assist the
organization in its mission to provide the necessary tools and resources
for its clients to achieve food security for themselves and their pet.

Candy-Inspired Christmas Decoration, Plush Toys Delivered at Phoenix
Children’s Hospital

For patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital who will be unable to
celebrate the holidays in the comfort of their own home, volunteers from
PetSmart Charities provided candy-inspired holiday decorations at the
facility and delivered plush toys to patients. PetSmart stores across
North America, including the nearly 40 stores in the Phoenix area, are
conducting toy drives through Dec. 24 with PetSmart’s commemorative
Chance, Lucky and Stanley* plush toys. The toys are $5 each and also
give back 10 percent to PetSmart Charities. So far, more than $585,000
has been raised for pets in need, and over 1 million toys have been
collected. Toys are being delivered to children in need across North
America, including locally to organizations like the Phoenix Children’s
Hospital to make the holidays a bit merrier for the patients.
