Powerful Video Ad on a New Threat to the LGBT Community Launches in West Hollywood, the Castro and Hillcrest

On anniversary of Stonewall riots, LGBT people on verge of losing
another civil liberty

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–On the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the Coalition
for Civil Liberties
announces the launch of a powerful digital
commercial showing the threat LGBT Californians face from Gavin Newsom’s
dangerous ballot measure.

Starting Tuesday, on the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, and
continuing over the coming weeks, pop-up video displays will appear in
high-traffic areas of West Hollywood, the Castro and Hillcrest. The aim
is to educate the LGBT community about how Newsom’s initiative, which
was recently certified to be on the November ballot, will leave them
defenseless from violent criminals.

The video – titled “My California: Gay and Defenseless” – can be viewed
at www.WheresMyAmmo.com/anyone.
It shows the devastating impact of a deeply flawed initiative that
experts on law enforcement believe will harm innocent, law-abiding
Californians.

LGBT people are at greater risk of violent hate crimes than any other
minority. They are twice as likely to be targeted than African-Americans
or Jews, more than four times as likely as Muslims, and almost 14 times
as likely as Latinos.

“On the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, it’s terrifying that LGBT
people are still facing laws that will strip us of protections needed to
live safely in our communities,” said Richard Grenell, co-Chair of The
Coalition for Civil Liberties. “Many members of the LGBT community
responsibly and legally own guns. We don’t want this right infringed
upon.”

Newsom’s proposal has met with significant opposition from the frontline
law enforcement officials who protect Californians every day. Nine law
enforcement groups – representing tens of thousands of officers,
prosecutors and sheriffs – have criticized the ballot measure for
criminalizing law-abiding citizens without offering any support in their
efforts to stop criminals and terrorists. Zero law enforcement groups
support Newsom.

The Coalition is a diverse group of Californians – minority rights
advocates, victims of violence, gun owners and more – that has come
together to stop Gavin Newsom’s dangerous initiative. For more
