PPG Completes COLORFUL COMMUNITIES Project in Gamchun Cultural Community of Busan, South Korea

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–$PPG #Busan–PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™
project that helped to revitalize the streets of the Gamchun Cultural
Community in Busan, South Korea. The Colorful Communities program
provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions
to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates
around the world, such as in Busan, where PPG has a manufacturing
facility.

Through cooperation with the Saha-gu social welfare center, a local
nonprofit organization, more than 120 PPG employees and their family
members came together to volunteer for six hours painting murals to help
revitalize local streets in the town of “Gamchun,” which is an
economically distressed area within the City of Busan. PPG provided
about $23,000 to assist with the project, including 128 gallons of PPG
paint products.

Recently the “Gamchun Cultural Community” was established, transforming
streets and vacant homes neighboring the town of Gamchun into arts or
exhibition areas. It has become a must-see tourist spot attracting more
than 700 visitors each day, but poverty continues to challenge the
nearly 9,000 residents of Gamchun, about 25 percent of whom are over the
age of 65 and many of whom need special care. This Colorful
Communities
initiative aimed to improve the local environment for
the benefit of both senior citizens and visitors.

“It is a great pleasure for us to be engaged with our local community,
to share PPG’s values by painting colorful murals on the streets of
Gamchun with our employees and families,” said James Do, president of
PPG Korea. “PPG will continue to support our neighbors and work to
revitalize our community.”

As part of the volunteer mural-painting event, Do presented a check to
Hee Bae Lee, executive director of the Saha-gu social welfare center,
and a local children’s band performed.

“This event was meaningful both because we helped support our community,
and because our employees were able to include their families in the
effort,” said Hannah Lee, PPG human resources director, North Asia.

The Colorful
Communities
program
is PPG’s signature initiative for community
engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify the
neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. The program increases
PPG’s commitment to invest in communities and supports projects that
transform community assets, providing PPG volunteers and donated PPG
products. In 2015 and 2016 combined, PPG completed nearly 60 Colorful
Communities
projects, and it expects to complete about 75 more this
year.
