President Trump Proclaims National School Choice Week; Proclamation is Second of Presidency
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#schoolchoice–Today, U.S. President Donald J. Trump issued an official proclamation
recognizing January 22-28, 2017 as National School Choice Week. The
proclamation was the second official proclamation of the Trump
presidency.
In his proclamation, President Trump said, “With a renewed commitment to
expanding school choice for our children, we can truly make a great
education possible for every child in America.”
Secretary Designate Betsy DeVos celebrated National School Choice Week
as well today, by attending a celebration of school choice at Thurgood
Marshall Academy, a high-performing charter school in Washington, DC.
6.4 million people will be celebrated across the country at 21,392
events during National School Choice Week 2017, from January 22 to 28.
The Week is the world’s largest-ever series of education events, and
shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for children,
including traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet
schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.
National School Choice Week 2017 has features: large rallies and events
in 27 state capitals; tens of thousands of events planned by schools,
homeschool groups, chambers of commerce, and other supporters; and
proclamations issued by 29 U.S. governors, the United States Senate, and
700 mayors and county leaders nationwide.
