Semillitas Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Semillitas is collaborating with Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP), Dicapta and the National Education Association (NEA) on the 7th annual Read Captions Across America Campaign. Semillitas will be supporting and promoting the campaign to include Hispanic children who are deaf or hard of hearing with the opportunity to join in the celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The celebration will be held March 3rd and is part of the NEA’s Read Across America campaign – the largest reading event in the United States, celebrated with read-aloud, read-along and reading marathon activities.

Maria Victoria, CEO of Dicapta commented, “We really appreciate the commitment and support from Semillitas in this amazing campaign for the benefit of our children. Reading captions is an invaluable tool supporting literacy for everyone.” Meanwhile Luis Villanueva, CEO and President of SOMOSTV commented, “We are so happy to support Dicapta and the NEA in their event, especially with the focus on including Hispanic children this year. Being a part of the `Reading Captions Across America’ event compliments our mission, which is to help and support all Latin parents in preserving the culture and Hispanic heritage, regardless of disability.”

Semillitas will be running a Dr. Seuss marathon that will run from 12pm to 6pm in neutral Spanish on March 3rd and will have captioning available for every child who tunes in during that time. Read Captions Across America puts emphasis on the importance of captioned media as a tool for the deaf and hearing impaired children alike, especially in the Latin communities.
