Senator Olympia Snowe Joins the Square Roots Advisory Board

Woman’s Health Champion Joins Bi-Partisan Collective To Transform
Maternal Health

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Square
Roots
, a discovery company redefining the healthy formation of life
and birth, today announced the appointment of former Senator Olympia
Snowe (R-Maine) to its Advisory Board. Senator Snowe will help champion
Square Root’s efforts in bringing bi-partisan solutions for maternal
health by connecting existing programs, tools, and new City initiatives
for healthier pregnancy outcomes.

“Senator Snowe is a true bipartisan leader who has been instrumental in
progressing women’s health issues for decades,” said Dick Gephardt,
Member of the Square Roots’ Advisory Board. “Her addition to the Square
Roots Advisory Board will make us better and smarter as we continue to
transcend politics and expand our public private partnerships from our
initial pilots to the many cities across the US to serve our
stakeholders: mothers and babies. We are honored to welcome her.”

Senator Snowe served in the U.S. Senate from 1995-2013 and as a Member
of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979-1995. She was the first
woman in American history to serve in both houses of a state legislature
and both houses of Congress. While in the House, she co-chaired the
bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Women’s issues for ten years. Senator
Snowe built a reputation as one of the Congress’ leading centrists,
co-chairing the Senate Centrist Coalition from 1999-2006. In 2005 she
was named the 54th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine.
In 2006 Time Magazine named her one of the top ten U.S. Senators. Snowe
is also the founder and honorary Board Chair of the Olympia Snowe
Women’s Leadership Institute, a 501(C)(3) public charity established to
elevate the confidence and aspirations of high school girls.

“The health of our population begins at birth and Square Roots is
reminding us of this important truth. The US currently ranks 46th
in the world in maternal mortality and this is unacceptable to our
society,” said Senator Snowe. “I am pleased to join this determined
group of leaders that will seek to become the connective tissue of a
healthy birth through collaboration, partnerships, and evidence-based
solutions.”

In January, Square Roots announced its inaugural city pilot program
which provides non clinical care, education, and tools for expecting
mothers. Located in Natchez, Mississippi, and in collaboration with the
Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI), the joint initiative builds on
the historic Square Roots Resolution for Maternal Health, which was
passed unanimously at the United States Conference of Mayors in 2015.
The expansion from Natchez to the dozens of additional cities who
Co-Sponsored the Square Roots resolution will continue its 2016 rollout
across the United States.
