Simply Healthcare Plans and the Anthem Foundation Donate $50,000 to National Center for Victims of Crime’s National Compassion Fund—Orlando

MIAMI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DisarmHate–In response to the recent Orlando shooting tragedy that took place at
Pulse Nightclub in May, Simply Healthcare Plans, a provider of Medicare,
Medicaid and HIV/AIDS specialty services, along with the Anthem
Foundation have announced a joint donation of $50,000 to the National
Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC). The funds will go to the NCVC’s
National Compassion Fund and be used to directly support Orlando
individuals and families who have been impacted by crime, including
those impacted by the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

“Simply Healthcare Plans is dedicated to serving Floridians, and when
the Orlando shooting tragedy hit so close to home, we were compelled to
take action to help those who we consider our neighbors, friends and
families,” said Tomas Orozco, Simply Healthcare Plans president,
Medicare. “We are grateful for the tremendous community organizations
and partners, such as the NCVC, who create opportunities to support the
Orlando victims’ recovery and make a positive impact in our community.”

The NCVC is a nonprofit advocacy organization that helps victims of
crime to rebuild their lives. The organization has established its
National Compassion Fund to serve as a trusted way for the public to
donate directly to victims of mass crime, such as the Orlando Pulse
Nightclub shooting. The Fund has been developed by the NCVC in
partnership with victims and families from past mass casualty crimes,
including those from Sandy Hook, Aurora, Virginia Tech, Oak Creek
Temple, NIU, Columbine and 9/11. In addition, 100 percent of funds
received through the National Compassion Fund are distributed directly
to victims and their families, and are used to support their immediate
and long-term emotional and physical needs.

“For more than 30 years NCVC has been dedicated to helping victims of
all types of crime to rebuild their lives,” said Mai Fernandez, NCVC
executive director. “Thanks to partners such as Simply Healthcare Plans
and Anthem Foundation, we are able to extend our support and provide
critical help to Orlando residents.”

Additional support for the victims has been enabled through a $1 million
contribution that the Anthem Foundation has made to the American Red
Cross’ Annual Disaster Giving Program, which allows the Red Cross to
immediately respond to the needs of those affected by disaster
throughout the country. Furthermore, the Anthem Foundation has been
matching donations made by associates of its affiliated health plans
through the Anthem Associate Giving Program. To date, associate
donations to support Orlando shooting victims have exceeded $5,000 when
paired with the Anthem Foundation match.
