Sports Illustrated Play Advances Technology Leadership in Youth Sports Industry with the Acquisition of Tourney Machine

SI Play Continues to Invest to Serve Youth Sports Organizations

NEW YORK & AMES, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sports Illustrated Play (SI Play) has acquired Iowa-based Tourney
Machine, a leader in tournament management and scheduling software.
Tourney Machine will provide a state-of-the-art tournament management
product that is the perfect complement to SI Play’s core league and team
management and in-game scoring capabilities. Together, they will provide
a suite of digital and mobile league management and tournament services
for clubs, organizations, leagues and governing bodies within a
cutting-edge youth sports platform.

Since its 2013 debut, Tourney Machine has managed more than 780,000
games across 8,000 tournaments, including participation from 393,000
teams and 3 million players. Its software suite is used for a range of
youth sports competitions, such as basketball, baseball, lacrosse,
softball, soccer and volleyball. Tourney Machine and its staff will
continue to be headquartered in Ames, Iowa, and will now be linked with
a nationwide team of SI Play developers and management resources,
including those from iScore, League Athletics and SportsSignup.

Since its July 2015 launch, SI Play has gained tremendous momentum, with
over 10 million monthly active users and now has official technology
partnerships with eight youth sports National Governing Bodies. The
acquisition of Tourney Machine will benefit these relationships to make
youth sports more fun, accessible and rewarding.

“We share a common bond with Tourney Machine in our devotion to the
communities of people connected through youth sports. We’re already
talking about new ideas and ways we can spotlight the great
accomplishments taking place on athletic fields, as well as ways
technology can make it more efficient for all of us who contend with the
ever-increasing demands on our time,” said Jeff Karp, CEO of SI Play.

“We are thrilled to become part of the SI Play family. As dads and
coaches ourselves, we have a common vision—that technology should be
used to improve the experiences of athletes, coaches and families and
that these experiences should be shared and cherished with their
communities,” said Rob and Tom Lynch, co-founders of Tourney Machine,
who will continue in their roles.

George Linardos, Chief Business Officer of SI Play, added, “Tournaments
are an increasingly integral and common aspect of participating in youth
sports, such as soccer, lacrosse, hockey, basketball and baseball, or
any number of the many sports served by both Tourney Machine and SI
Play. Together we will further build out the web and mobile engine that
powers these tournaments to ensure that the players, families, coaches
and organizers have the best and most successful tournament experiences
possible.”
