The Billion Family Dinners Challenge Launches to Reconnect Families at Mealtime

Social movement inspires families of all kinds to bond over shared
meals

INDIANAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The
Billion Family Dinners Challenge
, the social advocacy movement
created to remind the world of the importance of eating with others,
starts its groundswell today. The movement aims to bring people together
by challenging the nation to achieve one billion shared meals by logging
their experiences on social media and the DinnerCall
app
.

“A family
dinner
happens whenever we take time to be present with our
families, neighbors and friends over a shared meal, and we want to
encourage everyone to have more of these magical experiences,” said
Gerry Hays, co-founder of The Billion Family Dinners Challenge and CEO
of DinnerCall. “Leftovers on the living room floor or cereal on the
porch creates the same connection as an elaborate feast. No matter the
meal, we’re looking for people to reconnect and become advocates for a
movement that can change our society at large. If each of us work
towards achievable milestones like 10 family dinners in two weeks, we’ll
meet The Billion Family Dinners Challenge and undoubtedly see positive
outcomes.”

A crusade for shared family meals has grown in recent years, with
studies from leading researchers in family psychology finding benefits
such as lower obesity levels, decreased substance abuse, increased
school performance and more. The Billion Family Dinners Challenge
launches in tandem with National
Family Meals Month™
, a movement in September encouraging
families to eat one more meal at home per week. In a culture consumed by
mobile technology, The Billion Family Dinners Challenge encourages
families to embrace technology for deepening connections, rather than
working against it.

“The Billion Family Dinners Challenge is built on the shared principle
that forging positive family connections is of the utmost importance,”
said Ron Adair, CEO of Spokt
Family Sites
, a private and secure platform which allows families to
stay connected online. “Mobile technology is part of our daily lives, so
rather than shunning technology at the table, we hope to encourage
families to use DinnerCall to amplify the message. With technology as
the launching pad, this movement holds true to our belief that more
family connections will positively influence the health and wellness of
people across the globe. We are proud to be part of a movement that will
undoubtedly impact our society.”

To participate in The Billion Family Dinners Challenge, users should
download the free DinnerCall app to track their family dinners and share
their experiences with the hashtag #BillionDinners. With the DinnerCall
app, participants upload images from family dinner to instantly share on
social media, track other family dinners in progress and enjoy helpful
conversation starters. The DinnerCall app is available through iTunes
and Google
Play
.
