The Chilean Miners Meet the Pope in Rome
ROME–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Chilean miners, whose inspiring story has been brought to the screen
in “The 33,” were in Rome to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their
miraculous rescue, which captivated more than a billion people around
the world on October 13, 2010.
Today, they had the great privilege of participating in the weekly
audience with Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square. After delivering a
message about hope, the Pope personally greeted the miners and their
families, who were honored to present His Holiness with personalized
gifts. It was a day none of them could have imagined five years ago.
The evening before, on the night of the anniversary, they received a
standing ovation at a special screening of Alcon Entertainment’s and
Warner Bros. Pictures’ film “The 33,” which tells their inspiring story,
opening November 13, 2015.
