THE REVENANT is #1 Movie in the World, Crossing $200 Million Mark at the Global Box Office
LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–This weekend, New Regency’s THE REVENANT further solidified its
#1 position at the global box office by earning more than $223.6 million
in just three weeks of wide release.
The announced was made today by 20th Century Fox, which is
distributing the film domestically and in most international territories.
THE REVENANT’s domestic weekend tally was an impressive
$16,009,718 million, despite a fierce winter storm that shuttered many
theaters in the eastern U.S. To date, THE REVENANT’s domestic
take is over $119 million.
Internationally, the film opened in several new markets, earning a total
of $33.8 million and taking its total to $104.5 million. It has held the
#1 slot for three consecutive weeks in Austria and Switzerland; has been
#1 for two consecutive weeks in Germany, Russia, UK, South Korea,
Hungary, Iraq, and Syria; and is the biggest opening ever for the film’s
star, Leonardo DiCaprio, in Russia, Mexico, Chile, Central America,
Portugal and Latvia.
In addition to its chart-topping box office, THE REVENANT is one
of the year’s most honored films – with twelve Academy Award®
nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Alejandro G.
Iñárritu), Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Tom
Hardy); two Golden Globe® awards, for Best Picture (Drama) and Best
