‘Tis the Season to Tackle the Holiday Birthday Blues, Says Chase Freedom Survey

Small gestures can bring much-needed cheer for Americans feeling
slighted by combined birthday/holiday celebrations

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#ChaseFreedom–Having a holiday birthday is surely not nice, said many Americans that
have birthdays during the holiday season. In a national survey1
conducted by Chase Freedom, a third (32%) of those surveyed with holiday
birthdays feel that they are celebrated less – by those whom you might
find on the naughty list.

In fact, one-fifth of Americans admitted to forgetting, ignoring or
deliberately downplaying someone’s birthday because it falls on or near
a holiday, the survey found.

“Chase Freedom wants to chase away those holiday birthday blues,” said
BJ Mahoney, General Manager of Chase Freedom. “We encourage holiday
birthdayers – and their loved ones – to use their Cash Back rewards to
make this birthday one that won’t be forgotten.”

Here’s what the Chase Freedom survey uncovered:

birthday on or near a major U.S. holiday, with 64% knowing a family
    member/friend with a holiday birthday.
  • Counting the days to Christmas: Bah humbug. 84% said that
October through December is a tough time of the year to have a
birthday, with 61% ranking Christmas as the worst holiday birthday.
  • Little things make a difference. 56% of respondents said that
