TXU Energy, Priority Power Management Cheer Energy Efficiency at George W. Bush Presidential Center

With the George W. Bush Presidential Center now open for its third month and in the middle of a busy summer season, TXU Energy and Priority Power Management congratulate the center on its energy efficiency efforts and its top LEED certification.

TXU Energy is proud to be the retail electricity provider for the Bush Center.

“It’s an honor for TXU Energy to serve this tremendous facility,” said Gabe Castro, vice president of business for TXU Energy. “The Bush Center brings history, culture and continued leadership to North Texas in a thoughtful and responsible way.”

The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification program encourages building designers and operators to use sustainable and energy-efficient materials and systems to reduce a facility’s impact on the environment and community health. The Bush Center was designed to achieve platinum certification, the highest level. Upon completion of construction, it will be the first presidential library to reach that standard.

“We appreciate our partnership with TXU Energy, particularly because the company shares our priority of promoting energy efficiency and conservation,” said Mark Langdale, president of the George W. Bush Presidential Center. “TXU Energy and Priority Power Management both provided a great deal of expertise.”

Langdale added that, “The Bush Center and our ongoing work are a reflection of the principles that guided President and Mrs. Bush in their public service, including their longstanding commitment to conservation and caring for the land.”

Priority Power Management is a Texas-based independent energy management and consulting firm that helps clients address the risks and challenges of energy supply, information and demand management.

“It’s a pleasure to work with Mark and his team at the Bush Center because everyone shares the priorities of being energy efficient and good stewards of the environment,” said John J. Bick, managing principal for Priority Power Management.

The center’s energy efficiency efforts include:

  • 1,550 square feet of green-roofing systems over three areas, reducing cooling and heating demands.
  • 2,500 square feet of solar panels for water heating with 1,800 gallons of storage capacity, supplying 100 percent of the Bush Center’s domestic hot water.
  • 19,000 square feet of solar panels that can generate 164 kilowatts, or 9.5 percent of the Bush Center’s energy demand.
  • High-performance, low-iron insulated windows.
  • High-efficiency HVAC systems to reduce energy demand.
  • Deep exterior overhangs to shade the building.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center is located on 23 acres at the entrance of the Southern Methodist University (SMU) campus five miles north of downtown Dallas. The 226,000-square-foot facility houses two entities: the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, open to visitors seven days a week, and the George W. Bush Institute, a public policy center with the mission of advancing freedom by expanding opportunities for individuals at home and across the globe. The Bush Center also includes a museum store and Café 43, catering to museum visitors and the local community, and is enveloped within a 15-acre urban park recreating the historic native prairie landscape of the past.
