U.S. Cellular Celebrates 4-H’s Ninth Annual National Youth Science Day

U.S. Cellular leaders and associates join 4-H students in youth-led
science experiments

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–For the second consecutive year, U.S. Cellular is joining the National
4-H Council to celebrate its annual National Youth Science Day (NYSD).
As part of its commitment to advancing science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM) education, U.S. Cellular will support local 4-H
members at 10 events throughout the company’s markets this fall. The
students will participate in the NYSD experiment, Drone Discovery,
and learn about STEM careers from U.S. Cellular leaders and associates.

“We are proud to work with the National 4-H Council to bring experiences
such as National Youth Science Day to local 4-H youth,” said Deirdre
Drake, senior vice president and chief human resources officer at U.S.
Cellular. “This is a great opportunity to help kids discover the
excitement of a career in STEM and show them the significance of its
applications in daily life.”

4-H NYSD, in its ninth year, is the world’s largest youth-led STEM
challenge. It is an interactive learning experience that engages
thousands of kids in 4-H clubs across the country. This year’s
experiment explores the design, operation and purpose of drones in the
real world. The three-part challenge allows youth to explore concepts
such as flight dynamics, drone safety, drone operation and
payload/remote sensing. In addition to the 10 local events, U.S.
Cellular will also join 4-H at their flagship event in Washington, D.C.,
on Oct. 5, where hundreds of youth will conduct the experiment together.

“4-H National Youth Science Day is all about getting kids excited about
STEM. And right now, there’s not a more exciting topic out there than
drone technology,” said Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO, National
4-H Council. “By collaborating with companies like U.S. Cellular, we can
spark early interest in STEM topics and lay the foundations for
long-term interest in STEM careers.”

U.S. Cellular has a longstanding commitment to the community and
education. The company has contributed more than $9.6 million to local
educational programming since 2009.
