United Airlines Renews Support for International Center for Journalists’ Minority Reporting Program

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–United
Airlines
has renewed its partnership with the Washington, D.C.-based
International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to support the Bringing
Home the World: International Reporting Fellowship Program for Minority
Journalists
. Under the partnership, United will be the sponsoring
airline for the third year for several Fellows who will travel to Latin
America.

ICFJ has selected 12 Bringing Home the World Fellows for 2016. They
represent a variety of news organizations including PBS NewsHour,
POLITICO, The Baltimore Sun and Hoy Los Angeles, as well as freelance
writers. The journalists, chosen from 70 applicants, will travel to
Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Cuba among other countries to produce
global stories of importance to their communities.

ICFJ President Joyce Barnathan said, “ICFJ is grateful for United’s
support of this program, which brings diverse voices to global news
stories and sheds new light on important issues that are underreported.”

The Bringing Home the World Fellowship gives U.S.-based minority
journalists a rare opportunity to report from overseas and advance their
careers. The journalists, who will travel between June and August, will
blog about their experiences and share information about their
assignments on social media.

To prepare the journalists for their foreign assignments, ICFJ will hold
an orientation from June 20-23, 2016, in Washington, D.C. Each Fellow is
also paired with a mentor who provides guidance throughout the program.

The 2016 Bringing Home the World Fellowship also is sponsored by the
Ford Foundation, the Scripps Howard Foundation and the Fortune Family
Foundation.
