Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center (VC3) Opens a Second Linear Accelerator for Advanced Radiation Treatment in Malvern, PA

VC3 now offers the most comprehensive array of radiation cancer
treatment options for companion animals

MALVERN, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center, a privately owned advanced
radiation treatment center for veterinary use, today announced the
addition of a Varian Linear Accelerator to complement the CyberKnife
stereotactic radiosurgical system.

“The addition of the linear accelerator will mean that we now have the
ability to use Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT),
Stereotactic Radiation Therapy, Multi-energy Electron Therapy as well as
On-board Imaging and Cone Beam CT. We will be one of the few hospitals
in the US to be able to offer a full complement of radiation
capabilities, and the only one to offer a veterinary-dedicated
CyberKnife,” said VC3 Medical Director Dr. Siobhan Haney, VMD, MS, DACVR
(RO), MBA. The linear accelerator will be used to treat tumors of the
head and neck, incompletely excised skin tumors as well as tumors of the
gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts, among others.

The Varian linear accelerator will complement the unique capabilities of
the CyberKnife, which provides the ability to perform Stereotactic
Radiosurgery (SRS). SRS includes the precise delivery of high-powered
radiation beams to a tumor with sub-millimeter accuracy. SRS also causes
far less damage to surrounding healthy tissue and organs. Ultimately,
this means significantly fewer side effects and a rapid return to normal
activities for a patient. . The CyberKnife also allows our team to
deliver definitive radiation in 1 to 3 treatments versus 17 to 20
treatments that may be required using other types of treatments

As well as the installation of the Varian linear accelerator, VC3 is
also expanding its team of compassionate experts with the addition of
Dr. Cassie Wilcox. Dr. Wilcox completed her residency in radiation
oncology at UC Davis and brings a new level of skill to the team. VC3
will now have 2 full-time radiation oncologists on staff, making the
center the only private practice on the East Coast to offer such
comprehensive availability. “The Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center now
offers the best options available for pets with cancer in need of
radiation therapy. Together with our board-certified Radiation
Oncologists, Anesthesiologist, highly experienced nursing staff and the
finest technology available, we will continue to make a meaningful
impact on the treatment of cancer in the veterinary field,” said Chris
Popper, President & CEO, Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center.
