Zappos.Com Celebrates Leap Day with Company-Wide Paid Day off, Inspires Employees and Consumers to #Taketheleap

Zappos petitions for national paid holiday to inspire adventure
and achievement with extra 24 hours in the year

LAS VEGAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In honor of Leap Day, Zappos.com
– the online retailer known for customer service – is celebrating the
extra day that occurs just once every four years in a big way. On
February 29, 2016, Zappos is giving all employees a paid day off and
launching a petition with Change.org
with a goal of at least 100,000 online petition signers for Leap Day to
be declared a national paid holiday. With one extra day in the year,
Zappos hopes to encourage employees and customers to #TakeTheLeap by
using the extra 24 hours to do something they’ve always wanted to do.

For the first time ever, the famously always-open Zappos call center
will close for 24 hours, from 9 p.m. ET on February 28 through 9 p.m. ET
on February 29, 2016 (midnight to midnight Pacific time), giving all
employees an opportunity to make the most of this rare occasion and
inspire spontaneity and adventure for all. Stories will be captured and
shared across Zappos social channels showcasing how employees are using
Leap Day to accomplish something they’ve always dreamed of or finally
conquering a longtime goal.

“One of Zappos’ core values is to embrace and drive change,” said Tyler
Williams of Zappos Brand Aura. “We believe this extra day will give
employees the chance to live that value by doing something they’ve
always wanted to do, and hope to inspire others to do the same.”

Inspired by the movement, two Zappos employees will fully embrace the
sentiment of this extra day by taking the leap into marriage on February
29. Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh will officiate the wedding.
