Wonderscope Children’s Museum Launches Capital Campaign to Build “A New Place for Play”

SHAWNEE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City announces today a capital
campaign to raise $12 million for a new, larger facility that will allow
it to expand programming and update exhibits, and make the museum Kansas
City’s new place for play for both children and adults.

“We envision a premier destination experience where families can
celebrate play and children can tinker and experiment at their own
pace,” said Roxane Hill, Executive Director. “The environment will
foster children’s creativity and confidence with parents and caregivers
learning right along with them.”

Wonderscope is the only nonprofit children’s museum in the Kansas City
area focusing exclusively on children ages newborn to 10. The capital
campaign will fund a new 30,000-square-foot facility at Red Bridge
Shopping Center, 112th Street and Holmes in Kansas City,
Missouri. The centralized location will provide greater visibility and
accessibility enabling more participation by schools, families and
children including lower-income communities.

A new, strategic partnership will allow Wonderscope to co-locate with
the Mid-Continent Public Library, expanding the museum’s reach and
providing more opportunities for events and co-sponsorships.

“Mid-Continent Public Library is excited and honored to be collaborating
with Wonderscope. In recent decades, Wonderscope and Mid-Continent
Public Library have worked individually toward these goals. Now, working
together we will create an unparalleled effort for early learning and
for community cooperation,” said Steve Potter, Library Director and CEO.

The museum’s new home will feature leading-edge exhibits housed in
interactive spaces and a more fluid floor plan. The focus will continue
to be on dynamic programming and inclusive displays of STEAM experiences
– science, technology, engineering, art and math.
