255 Schools Nationwide Named State Finalists in $2 Million* Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest
Samsung Signature Citizenship Program Challenges Students and
Teachers to Affect Positive Change in Their Communities
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Samsung Electronics America (SEA) has announced the 255 state finalists
in the Solve for Tomorrow Contest, a nationwide competition to raise
enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by
challenging students and teachers to tackle critical community issues
across the country.
The 255 state finalists were chosen from a pool of more than 4,100
teachers for their approach to exploring how STEM subjects address
issues that affect their lives and their regions, ranging from water
pollution to health and safety.

learning is a powerful platform for inspiring the next generation of
thought leaders and creators in the fields of science, technology,
engineering and math,” said Ann Woo, director of corporate citizenship,

finalists and all of the Solve for Tomorrow entrants on their innovative
ideas for solving real issues affecting their communities in order to
foster change and impact.”
In the next phase of the contest, the state finalists will submit
activity plans detailing how they plan to address the issue they
identified in their community using STEM skills. From that pool, 51
state winners (representing all 50 states and Washington, D.C.) will be
selected. The next phase will select 15 national finalists to present
their projects to a live panel of judges in March 2016. Five national
grand prize winners will then be selected by a panel of judges, Samsung
employees and public online voters in the spring of 2016.
Five schools in every state, and the District of Columbia, will each
receive two Galaxy Tab® 4s and the opportunity to move on in the
competition and win additional prizes. In addition, BrainPOP, a leading
STEM education digital destination, will be providing a 1-year
subscription to their digital platform and educator resources to all 51
state winners. Program partner Adobe will also be contributing their
signature software to the 15 national finalists.
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest was created in 2010 to encourage
innovation while addressing the technology gap in classrooms across the
country. The competition is the flagship Samsung Solve for Tomorrow
initiative which aims to engage students nationwide in active, hands-on
STEM learning. Since 2004, Samsung has provided more than $17 million in
technology to more than 1,000 public schools in the United States.
