Shawn Mendes to Perform at PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 2016

Show To Broadcast Live January 6th on CBS

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS announced today that 2016 Favorite Breakout
Music Artist nominee, Shawn Mendes, will perform live at the 2016 awards
show, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Wednesday, January 6,
2016, on the CBS Television Network (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT).
Mendes is the first announced performer for the 2016 show hosted by Jane
Lynch. The People’s Choice Awards are the only major awards show where
fans determine the nominees and winners across categories of movies,
music, television and digital.

“Shawn is such an incredibly talented artist and we are looking forward
to having him perform at our show,” said executive producer Mark
Burnett. “He is a huge fan favorite and that is what our show is really
all about, the fans.”

Mendes received his first People’s Choice Award nomination this year as
a contender for Favorite Breakout Artist. Mendes emerged from teen viral
sensation to major best-selling status almost overnight. Shawn’s debut
single “Life Of The Party” broke records, topping the iTunes charts and
selling over 150,000 copies in its first week. The success of the song
made Shawn the youngest artist ever to break into the Billboard Hot
100’s Top 25 with a debut single. A month later, Mendes released is
self-titled debut EP, which also hit the #1 spot on iTunes, and entered
at #5 on the Billboard album charts, showing the staying power of the
young artist. In April, Shawn released his debut album Handwritten, which
debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts and includes #1 certified
triple platinum single “Stitches” as well as certified platinum single
“Life of the Party,” and certified gold “Something Big.” In addition to
joining Taylor Swift on The 1989 World Tour, Mendes has been on his own
headlining tour including sold out shows at LA’s Greek Theatre and Radio
City Music Hall. Currently, new single “I Know What You Did Last Summer”
with Camila Cabello of Fifth Harmony is Top 20 at Pop Radio.

Voting for PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS 2016 has closed for most categories,
but will remain open for Favorite New TV Comedy and Favorite New TV
Drama until show night on www.PeoplesChoice.com.
