Telemundo Media announced today the first exclusive interview granted by

Governor Mitt Romney to a Spanish-language network since formally

accepting his nomination. Governor Romney will discuss with Telemundo

News Anchor José Diaz-Balart the unrest in the Middle East, the state of

the presidential race and other topics of interest to the Hispanic

community. The exclusive interview, conducted in Los Angeles,

California, also will incorporate questions asked by Telemundo viewers

via social media through “Noticiero Telemundo’s” Facebook page and under

the twitter handle @telemundonews. The interview will air on Monday,

September 17 on “Noticiero Telemundo” (6:30 pm ET/PT, 5:30 pm CT). As

part of a special series of the network’s Sunday public affairs show

“Enfoque con Jose Diaz-Balart,” an extended version of Governor Romney’s

Romney’s responses will be translated to Spanish for broadcast and also

be closed captioned in English and Spanish.

“We are extremely proud to provide our viewers with exclusive access to

both President Obama and Governor Romney at a very critical time in our

country,” said Sylvia Rosabal, Senior Vice President of News for

Telemundo. “Hispanics will play a major role in the upcoming

presidential election and want to hear from both candidates on the

current Middle East crisis and issues that impact their daily lives

including the economy, healthcare and immigration policy.”

Governor Romney’s exclusive Spanish-language interview is part of a

series of informative specials and segments that make up “Decisión 2012”

(“Decision 2012″), a Telemundo News initiative that houses all reporting

related to the 2012 elections. This initiative has included the complete

coverage of the Presidential Primaries and the Democratic and Republican

National Conventions; the release of the monthly national Latino

Telemundo/NBC News/Wall Street Journal polls, as well as the first

exclusive interview granted by President Obama after the Democratic

National Convention. Recently, NBC News and Telemundo announced a

partnership to deliver an unprecedented number of hours of political

coverage in English and Spanish under the signature banner “Decision

2012.” Telemundo’s election coverage is complemented by the public

service campaign “Vota por tu futuro” (“Vote for your future”) created

to raise awareness among the Hispanic population about the importance of

exercising the right to vote.
