Raphael Memorial (KRM)
taps into the “Spirit of the Irish” with a
lively parade and gathering organized by restaurateurs Henry and Simon
deVere and Patrick Mulvaney. A rivalry has developed between the deVere
brothers and Mulvaney through a friendly challenge to raise funds and
awareness for child cancer research through this signature, annual St.
Baldrick’s event. This year, the challenge has gone viral, as Mulvaney’s
“Sactown Baldies” and “Team deVere’s Bald Crusaders” have enlisted the
support of some high-profile culinary professionals and taken their friendly
feud to social media

WHY:

Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by childhood cancer.
The deVere brothers host this yearly event in honor of their
father, Dr. Ralph deVere White M.D., a Senior Advisor Emeritus
with U.C.
Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center
. Through their efforts, the
brothers have raised more than $1.5 million for cancer research.
Their passion has inspired celebrity head-shaving participants and
fueled the friendly
rivalry with Mulvaney
. According to Henry deVere: “Simon
and I look forward to another successful St. Baldrick’s and to
summer vacation. We’ve been taking Patrick Mulvaney to school all
month.”
