HomeServe and Utility Service Partners Celebrate 9th Annual Fix a Leak Week to Support Water Conservation

NORWALK, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–HomeServe
USA
(HomeServe), a leading provider of home emergency repair
solutions and its subsidiary Utility
Service Partners
(USP), the administrator of the National
League of Cities Service Line Warranty Program
, today announced
support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 9th
Annual Fix a Leak Week. Observed from Monday, March 20th
through Sunday, March 26th, the EPA WaterSense® Program
promotes the week to create awareness around the issue of leaks in
household plumbing and water systems, which can contribute to
significant water loss, and the simple changes homeowners can make to
address leaks and limit waste.

According to WaterSense,
minor water leaks in U.S. homes account for more than 1 trillion gallons
of water wasted every year. To equip homeowners with a better awareness
of the issue and tips to fix leaks, WaterSense promotes Fix a Leak Week
annually during the third week of March. The program informs Americans
how to investigate potential water leaks in their home, by examining
their utility bills and reading their water meter, among other methods.
Fix a Leak Week materials also provide consumer
tips
on how to make simple changes to reduce their water waste,
including replacing worn toilet flappers, repairing dripping faucets and
leaking showerheads, helping homeowners significantly minimize the
impact of leaks.

“Water loss is a critical issue that requires our attention and action.
As industry leaders, it’s important for HomeServe and organizations like
WaterSense to share these simple, straightforward tips consumers can
implement to quickly and easily reduce water waste,” said Tom Rusin, CEO
of HomeServe USA. “Most people are unaware of how much water is lost
from something as simple as a leaky faucet or running toilet, and so
education can make a big difference for water conservation. We are proud
to be an ally in helping further consumer awareness and understanding of
this issue during Fix a Leak Week.”

Through the service line repair programs HomeServe and USP provide, in
conjunction with municipalities and utilities around the country, tens
of thousands of homeowners each year have been able to quickly and
efficiently repair leaking water service lines – a significant source of
lost water – without worrying about the cost and challenge of managing
this type of repair.

Beyond this, HomeServe and USP have also served as an information
resource for homeowners and utilities alike. The Company has shared useful
water saving tips
to improve efficiency in household water
consumptions, such as installing low-flow fixtures and aerators on
faucets, displacing water in toilet tanks, fixing leaks, and more. In
2016, HomeServe published “What
Lies Beneath the Surface
,” a white paper offering solutions for
utilities to address the challenges created by non-revenue water (NRW),
which refers to the water that is lost along the way as utilities
deliver water to their customers’ homes, often due to leakage or wastage.
